FAQ
Q: Do we have to meet before the ceremony?
A: I think it is ideal but occasionally travelling a long way can prove difficult and expensive. This is where telephones and the internet come into their own. I would ensure I met you the night before a wedding or blessing.
A: First and foremost I have a calling to ministry and take this calling terribly seriously.
Please bear in mind, some ministers from larger and more mainstream denominations are paid a stipend (technically a salary) and others are not. Some ministers/pastors are funded by weekly, monthly or yearly donations made by the church congregation. Chaplaincy for ministers of religion, either in the Armed Forces or the Health and Prison Service, carry a much bigger salary than that of a parish priest. Ironically it appears to be the priests from smaller churches who take on a chaplaincy role without any salary at all! However, we all need to make a living, but I have tried to keep costs down to a reasonable amount.
I have broken down what my roles and responsibilities are to you.
When we meet, we will spend two hours or so discussing your service. I then spend at least two days if not longer writing a tailor-made service for you. I spend this time because I want it to be the best day of your lives. You will not get a churned out, pre-written service, that I promise.
I then have to get your certificate printed plus the order of service, if required. I am available on the end of a phone, mail and text for all of the queries you have, and there will be many.
With this in mind, I have a standard fee for weddings and blessings which includes everything I have mentioned and I request nothing more than a donation for my church and ministry for a Baptism/Christening. Should I have to travel quite a distance then I would request a contribution towards my petrol and overnight accommodation if necessary. No cost is hidden and will be discussed with you before any booking takes place.
The donation request for travel costs does not apply to funerals. Funeral fees are addressed by the appointed Funeral Director and that applies to all clergy and celebrants.
If people have genuine financial hardships then this can be discussed so please do not feel you cannot talk to us about anything.
The bereavement support via my website is part of my ministry and I request nothing.
Q: How religious are your services?
A: I am proud to be a forward thinking Minister and am aware of changing times and differing opinions. I will not conduct a service without mention of God, I do not see the point! However, this is your service and it can be as you choose.
Q: Can our blessing, wedding or baptism service be held in our own garden?
A: Of course it can, it is often a very special affair when it is, and of course it keeps the costs down.
